An experiment
Saturday, October 8th, 2005On Thursday I attempted to see if I can do my work using a Mac as my desktop. Most of the time, when I use the iBook (Komodo for those who care), it’s at a location other than my desk – usually because my main computer (GilaMonster) isn’t usable for some reason or another, mostly because my connection to the outside world is down.
What I did was connect the Mini-VGA adapter to my KVM switch (it’s still there actually) and plug my keyboard into the side of the iBook. Unfortunately, it’s an old PS/2 switch. I may buy a new one if it becomes necessary, but I’ve been managing fine with the old one. I use an Apple keyboard, so there was no problem with the keyboard mapping. My biggest gripe was the display size, but I suppose I can’t expect too much from a 12″ iBook. I checked the display capabilities of the Mac mini and they are much greater.
If I can manage it, I might do the experiment over a couple of days next time. On a side note, I can’t use Bonjour (formerly Rendezvous or Zeroconf) without thinking of this.
