Ullo John got a new motor?
Peter Bjorn and John followed by Elvis Costello? Hells yeah FAT Muzak.
I had a moment earlier this evening, alluded to via. Twitter, straight out of a Tommy Tiernan act (warning to those of you not familiar with the bould Tom, his language isn’t the cleanest). What happened was that the fire alarm went off here at the airport, complete with recording advising people to leave the building and not return until advised that it was safe. Nobody paid any attention. I guess Fresnans and Galwegians are more alike than we’d like to let on.
For the first week and a bit of 2009, I was sporting a (relatively) full beard. I guess it could be most accurately called a “holiday beard”. My main reason for doing so was that it was so damn cold in the new ticketing area that is almost ready for opening. Since the heat has been turned on in there, I have decided to bare my cheeks again. The top lip is still covered, but I haven’t decided for how long.
Back in October, I added another country to the list of places I’ve been. Since we were in San Diego, it was decided that we take a quick jaunt across the border into Mexico. The most common way to do this is to go down to Tijuana, but we decided againt that and headed east toward Tecate. I had heard that it was cleaner and less scary. The drive was a little scary, mostly because of my mother freaking out in the back seat as I headed up the hilly road. We got to Tecate (the town in California on the US side of the border) and parked the rental car in a paid lot before heading toward the border.
Walking across the border was pretty much a non-event. We headed over to the Tecate brewery, which is the main business in the city. Unfortunately, there was a large meeting going on at the time and the brewery tour was not being run. On the up side, the beer garden was open, so we got to sample their wares. There wasn’t a whole lot more to do on a Monday in October, so we headed back toward San Diego, with a stop planned in Santee to surprise my dad with a trip to Hungry Howie’s Pizza – a place we discovered on our trip to Florida many years ago and had not eaten at since. Because of the timing, we arrived about two hours too early for them to open up. The decision was made not to wait around for them to open up and get something to eat back in San Diego instead.
I read last year about a ridiculous (that’s rid-ic-u-lous, from the root ridicul, not REDiculous) trademark lawsuit filed by monster cable against Monster Mini Golf. I just found out today that this place is in Rancho Cordova. The lawsuit has been dismissed, but in light of this new information, I think I need to pay a visit.
I’ve been making coffee in a French Press/Press Pot/Cafetiere over the last while and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are some coffees that are a little too intense for consumption this way. Maybe I’m just a girly-man, but the bolder coffees just kick my butt when prepared this way. I can handle them no problem from a drip coffee maker, but my Bunn is in Fresno and I was in Roseville at the time.
Happy New Year everyone. For 2009, as with many times before, I endeavour to update this site much more often. I think I need to take a certain amount of time every day to write something here, full post or otherwise. Here’s to another start!
