Oh AT&T, you scallywags!
In the roughly six years that I’ve lived in this country, various companies with the name AT&T have popped off the radar and have somehow resurfaced later. The most recent of these is the company currently known as Cingular, which is now wholly owned by AT&T, formerly SBC.
This particular one is similar to what happened with cable TV in the city I currently call home – Elk Grove, CA. In that case, Comcast was their cable TV provider until AT&T Broadband bought the contract out, who in turn were purchased by Comcast a few years later. In Cingular’s case, AT&T Wireless was purchased by Cingular, who became fully owned by AT&T due to the recent purchase of Bell South.
I’ll try to come back and flesh this out a bit later, but it’s work time – yep, back on the 4 am starts.
